Thailand Student Visa

After getting accepted into a Thailand educational institution you are ready to apply for a Thailand student visa and pursue your studies in the universities of Thailand. The visa is also called Non-Immigrant ED Visa and this guide will simplify the application process to ensure a smooth transition to becoming an international student and get yourself that desired degree in Thailand.

Who Needs a Student Visa?

Anyone who is not a Thai citizen needs a student visa to study at any Thailand university.

This applies to you even if you are exempted from a Thai Tourist Visa.

Basic Requirements for Thailand Student Visa

The following are the basic requirements that one must possess in order to get a Thailand student visa;

Must be enrolled in a Thai educational institution, and get an acceptance letter from that university.

Take a minimum of three to four courses, for more information check with your school.

The student must attend at least 15 hours of classes per week, not less than that.

Requirements might change with time so it’s better to check with authorities to confirm what has changed and what are complete requirements.

Valid passport

The passport of the applicant must be valid for at least six 6 months beyond your intended departure for Thailand. Two blank pages for stamps. 18-month validity is required on the passport if you are applying for a year visa.

Passport photocopies

Photocopies of your passport front page are also required. This page consists of your basic bio data like Name, validity date, expiry, passport number, etc. 

Complete visa application

This visa application form can be downloaded from the official website or you can obtain it in person from the embassy etc. Complete it with the correct information.

Letter of admission

The letter of admission is given by the educational institution once you are accepted by that university. This will be sent to you by email.

Ministry of Education approval for private institutes

If applicable, you must get the approved document from the Ministry of Education in Thailand.

Internship Confirmation

Make sure to get an internship confirmation letter if required by the authorities.

Passport sized photos

4×6 cm passport-sized photographs with white backgrounds must be recent, not old, expressions should be neutral with full face visible, and headgear is only allowed if worn for religious purposes. 

Financial proof

The applicant must show that they have enough financial proof that cover the expenses of living and studies during their time in Thailand for studies. This proof can be submitted using bank statements.

Police clearance certificate

If your courses exceed more than one year, you must provide a police verification or clearance certificate showing that you have no criminal record.

Visa fee

Submit your visa fee in one installment. There are no installment options so make sure it is submitted in time so you do not have to face any rejections.

  2. Schedule an Appointment (if required).
  3. Collect Required Documents (as listed above).
  4. Submit Application and Documents:

By mail (include a prepaid self-addressed envelope for return)

  1. Wait for Processing
  2. Collect Passport and Visa (mailed back to you if applied by post)
